Philosophy
“To affect the quality of the day is the highest of all the arts.”
Walden, Henry David Thoreau
Amy’s three ironclad rules for any project are imperative to her artistic process: Listen carefully to the client; maintain open communication throughout the project; and always pay great attention to the details. For inspiration, Amy draws upon her extensive travels in Europe and Asia, real-life experiences as an artist and technician, as well as many master architects, designers and artisans, both in the classic and contemporary environment.
education and training
Amy graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with a BFA in Fine Art/Printmaking. After two years spent traveling in Europe and Asia, she then worked for 10 years installing artwork in local museums and galleries, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Fredrick Weisman Museum and the Minnesota Museum of Modern Art.
Amy furthered her training in the decorative arts by studying with world renown instructors such as Pierre La Fumat, Pascal Amblard, and many others at the North American School of Decorative Art, Chicago and Lynne Rutter in San Francisco.
In 1993, she founded Aurora Decorative Finishes LLC and has continued to work with a talented group of fellow artisans and designers in the Twin Cites area and around the country, including major projects in Boston, Duluth and Naples, Florida.
